Certain students who volunteer for a public safety organization have the chance to apply for financial assistance for college through the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation scholarship.
However, time is running out! Indiana college students only have until 5 p.m. ET on Friday, October 11th to submit their application.
According to IDHS officials, a full-time student with at least 12 credit hours per semester is eligible for a $2,000 scholarship while a part-time student with at least 6 credit hours per semester is eligible for a $1,000 scholarship.
They note the scholarship must be used during the awarded school year and the funds are intended to solely reimburse eligible students’ educational expenses.
In order to be eligible, Hoosiers who are incoming or continuing students must attend or plan to attend an accredited Indiana college and should have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Students must also volunteer at a public safety organization such as the fire department, law enforcement, emergency management agency, or emergency medical services. This must be validated by the chief executive of the department or agency.
The Indiana Homeland Security Foundation board will determine compliance eligibility. For additional details about the compliance of a specific organization, contact grants@dhs.in.gov.
