Marshall County’s unemployment rate moved lower in August, but the actual number of people working is also down. The county saw an unemployment rate of three percent last month, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
That’s down from 3.4 percent the month before and 3.3 percent in August of 2018. But the report also shows that there are fewer people in Marshall County’s labor force, and the estimated number of people working has dropped by six over the past year.
The county’s unemployment rate remains lower than the state and federal levels. Indiana’s non-seasonally adjusted rate was 3.2 percent for the month of August, while the U.S. as a whole was at 3.8 percent. Kosciusko County has the lowest unemployment rate of Marshall County’s neighbors at 2.7 percent, while Starke County’s is highest at four percent.
