Argos School Board members took a look at I-Learn scores when members met for their September meeting.
There has been widespread criticism of this year’s I-Learn results, with a statewide proficiency rating of only 37 percent in English/Language Arts and Math.
As a result of relatively low scores across the board, Governor Eric Holcomb issued a call to hold schools harmless and the Indiana State Board of Education approved a resolution that there will be no action to place school letter grades until the General Assembly explores how to ease the transition to I-Learn.
However, Superintendent Ned Speicher reports that school officials at Argos were not disappointed with what they found when they analyzed their scores.
He explained, “Though there’s a lot of controversy about it, we were very pleased with our test results. We looked at it by grade levels and compared it to area school districts and we were very pleased with the results.”
Of all of the school corporations that administered the I-Learn in Marshall County, Argos Community Schools scored highest in English/Language Arts and Math, with approximately half of the students tested found to be proficient in both areas at the Elementary School and Junior/Senior High.
When it comes to Science, Argos Elementary School received the second-highest proficiency score of Marshall County’s schools at 56.4 percent, coming in second to Triton Elementary where 58 percent of students were found to be Science proficient.
