Argos Town Council members considered a resolution related to meeting agenda items when they met for their first meeting of the month.
This topic was addressed by Councilwoman Susanne Umbaugh in a previous meeting and a request to standardize the way information is provided prior to meetings was presented to the council in the form of a resolution during their meeting on Wednesday, September 4th.
The resolution stated that if necessary information was not presented to Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney by 9 a.m. the Monday before the council’s regularly scheduled meeting, then it would not be listed on the agenda for that week.
While discussing the matter, it was mentioned that while the clerk-treasurer is responsible for preparing and providing the agendas, the Town Council President has the ultimate authority to decide what can and cannot be added.
Clerk-Treasurer Mullaney said that she contacts Council President George Null whenever a new request to be included on the agenda comes in.
Eventually, members decided not to pass the resolution, in order to avoid having something in writing that may contradict that policy or discourage people from coming to officials to speak during a meeting.
Though no official actions were taken, in order to give the council members an ample amount of time to review necessary documentation and fully understand what their meeting will entail, it is recommended that people provide the clerk-treasurer with information in a timely fashion.
