Bourbon officials have started discussions about possibly incorporating a fire hydrant fee into town water bills in the coming years.
Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger noted that the Town has about 105 fire hydrants and the annual cost of operation is approximately $67,000. Right now, the Town pays that cost out of the General Fund.
She added that town officials are seeking a way to free up that money to help cover other costs so they’re considering implementing an incremental increase to water bills in the form of a fire hydrant fee. Berger mentioned that the proposed adjustment would be made over a four year period.
No official actions have been taken but Clerk-Treasurer Berger said officials will be working over the next few months to get an ordinance created to potentially have this change in place by January of 2020.
