The Argos Town Council voted to pass an ordinance updating some of the fees associated with code violations when members met last week.
According to the Code of Ordinances available through the Town’s website, the schedule of violations and penalties was last adjusted in April of 2017.
After comparing that schedule to the amended one that was approved during the council’s first meeting of this month, it appears that many of the fees remained the same but a few were changed with the update.
For instance, the fee for the accumulation of rubbish was upped from $50 to $100, the Non-Sufficient Fund (NSF) check charge was raised from $30 to $40 and rather than having various fees for first, second and third violations associated with golf carts, individuals will now be charged $50 for non-registration or noncompliance of requirements.
The fee associated with a trucks size, weight, and use restrictions was doubled from $50 to $100. Parking outside a marked space will now cost violators $50 rather than $30, likewise with parking on a narrow street or adjacent to a school in addition to parking in an alley, any unspecified areas of a park, or on private property.
Additionally, individuals will now face a $50 fine for parking at an improper time or parking in excess of permitted time.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney noted that the adjustments were made to bring various fees up-to-date and in line with what’s standard.
