Argos School Board Holds Multiple Public Hearings

Three public hearings were held during the Argos School Board’s meeting last Monday.

Superintendent Ned Speicher said the first hearing was related to financing the school corporation’s ongoing and upcoming construction projects.

As a reminder, those projects include a drainage project that concluded prior to the start of the school year and a roofing project that has already started as well an auditorium improvement project and solar panel installation through a guaranteed energy savings project.

Speicher explained, “The first public hearing we had was on a seventh amendment to a lease and that is amending a lease that is on one of the school buildings right now to set up the financing for those construction projects.”

Superintendent Speicher shared that the next hearing was held in accordance with a new state requirement.

He noted, “A public hearing that’s new to Indiana this year for all school districts is having the public hearing before you enter negotiations on teacher compensation and collective bargaining.”

No comments were provided during either of those hearings.

The final hearing was over the school corporation’s proposed budget for 2020.

Superintendent Speicher noted that during this hearing, a member of the public did ask if this budget was similar to previous years. He replied that it is similar to last year’s budget and there are no anticipated tax increases.
