Applications for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s Secured School Safety Grant are being accepted through Friday, August 2nd.
IDHS officials report that the SSSG is a state matching grant dedicated to safety initiatives at Hoosier schools.
Public school corporations, accredited non-public schools, charter schools or a coalition of school corporations and/or charter schools applying jointly are eligible to apply for the matching grants up to $100,000, based on the average daily membership of the school entity.
In their last session, Indiana lawmakers appropriated approximately $19 million to the SSSG program, expanded eligibility and adjusted the matching formula.
There are certain items that are eligible for this program such as conducting a threat assessment and employing a school resource officer. That includes their salary, benefits and the cost of a 40-hour training course.
There are also some new items that are eligible during this grant cycle including funding the one-time start-up costs of an active alert warning system, supporting the implementation of a student parent support service program and purchasing equipment to restrict access to the school or expedite the notification of first responders.
According to a press release about this opportunity, to apply by the August 2nd deadline, school officials must first identify a system administrator for the IntelliGrants management system and register with the IDHS System Administrator Form.
The process is required to obtain credentials to access the system and complete an application for SSSG Funding. For additional information and to begin the applications process, officials can visit the IDHS Grants Management Website.
