The Argos School Board recently held a public hearing to discuss a number of upcoming projects at the school corporation.
A maintenance project that is being proposed is expected to include drainage upgrades as well auditorium improvements.
Superintendent Ned Speicher said the improvements in the auditorium will essentially modernize the facility.
He shared, “Controls are what we’re looking at with updating our sounds and lights to be basically computer controlled. So there will be a lighting portion of that and a sound portion of that and then brining the auditorium curtains up to new existing fire codes.”
Speicher also touched on the drainage issues that school officials are hoping to address with the maintenance project.
He explained, “We’ve had some problems with some water running into a classroom and one of our gymnasiums because of clogged drains. We have our roof drains coming off onto our playground and areas.”
Speicher continued, “A lot of these drains have either collapsed due to age or are not working anymore so we’re digging and putting new drains in and hooking our roof drains to get water away from the building.
Superintendent Speicher mentioned that school officials have been coordinating with the Town Utility Department about the drainage portion on this maintenance project.
He noted, “This summer we will be putting in some new piping and new drains on the exterior of the building and hook up onto the town structure to get better drainage from around the school.”
Following the hearing, board members passed one resolution determining the need for the projects and another specifically related to the maintenance project itself.
