Argos School Board members approved a new concept for the coming school year when members met last Thursday.
Superintendent Ned Speicher explained that the new concept is being implemented to help make a greater distinction between younger adolescents and other students.
He noted, “We’ve established more of a middle school concept for next year for our grades six, seven and eight because we don’t want them to be mini high school kids and they’re certainly not elementary kids.”
Speicher continued, “We want them to be treated as middle school kids and establish a separate school for them, so it won’t be a junior high anymore it will be a middle school.”
The superintendent mentioned that some meetings about the change were held with students and staff during the school year. He said they’ll hold some meetings with parents and guardians later this summer to ensure that the entire community is aware of the anticipated switch.
He added that staffing will likely remain the same despite the concept shift.
