After a week full of rainy days, the sun finally came out when David’s Courage opened their doors for a community preview this weekend.
However, that’s not the only good news; thanks to a matching opportunity promised by an anonymous donor, the $2,900 raised during Sunday’s event will be doubled to $5,800!
Check and cash contributions will continue to be matched up to $10,000.
During the community preview, people had a chance to walk around the historic structure and see all the renovations that have been made so far.
In addition to the tours, the Mayor of Plymouth provided a proclamation naming the first Sunday in May as Inspire Courage day in Marshall County.
The Marshall County Commissioners discussed the event when they met Monday morning. Commissioner Kevin Overmyer took a moment to address the hardworking individuals who have been rehabilitating the building.
Overmyer shared, “I just want to publically thank Greg Ericson and Tedd Hayden and all the volunteers that went out there and worked on that building. It was walking into a bright light compared to what it was before. They did such a wonderful job of rehabbing that.”
Commissioner Mike Delp added a comment about how many people were in attendance.
Delp noted, “Thanks Kevin, and they had a great turn out [Sunday], I was out there and I mean you could hardly find a place to park on all the connector roads inside so it was a great turnout.”
The building located on Lincoln Highway in Plymouth was originally built in 1892. Renovators have managed to hold onto some of the original elements of the structure while still giving it a more modern feel.
It is being transformed to house men and women who are struggling with addiction so programs offered through David’s Courage can help them on their road to recovery. Lots of renovations have been made to the facility but there’s still more work to be done.
