Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to Participate in Drug Take Back

To help prevent prescription drug abuse the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in the DEA’s National Drug Take Back on Saturday, April 27th.

Officers will be stationed in the parking lot of Walgreens on Michigan Street in Plymouth from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on that date. At that time, residents will be able to drop off expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs.

In a press release about the event, department officials cited a 2009 National Survey on Drug Use and Health which estimated that there were 7 million non-medical users of prescription drugs in the U.S. They go on to share that there are apparently more Americans abusing psychotherapeutics than the number of cocaine, heroin, and hallucinogen abusers combined.

Residents are reminded that it’s important to clear out your medicine cabinets in order to keep your prescriptions out of the hands of drug abusers and to avoid a risk to public health and safety.
