Marshall County Community Foundation Announces Spring Grant Round Award Recipients

Twice each year, the Marshall County Community Foundation invites nonprofit organizations to submit funding requests for projects.

During their spring grant round this year, approximately $121,660 was distributed from the Community Fund as well as the Ralph C. Vonnegut Jr. Fund.

During the competitive grant process, MCCF Grant Committee members evaluate proposals, focusing on new and collaborative projects and conduct site visits. The Foundation announced the award recipients during a presentation held on Wednesday, April 10th.

According to an MCCF press release, a total of $6,942 was awarded from the Ralph C. Vonnegut Jr. Fund. That fund was established to provide annual funding for environmental, educational or recreational projects directly related to Lake Maxinkuckee.

The Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council received $6,500 The Sea Scout Ship 1901 was given $442 and they intend to purchase equipment to start a ship and attend the World Scout Jamboree.

In the same release, officials noted that several organizations received financial assistance through the Foundation’s Community Fund Grants.

For instance, the Maxinkuckee Players and the Plymouth High School Band were each awarded $1,000. The Maxinkuckee Players plan to use the money to support a summer production of the musical Guys and Dolls while the Plymouth HS Band will be purchasing new students uniforms.

Additionally, a cycling community will be funded in the Town of Bourbon. Officials there will utilize the $1,040 they were awarded to install a bike repair station, a bicycle rack and places for bicyclists to rest.

The La-Paz North Township Fire Department intends to use the $1,750 they were given to purchase a water suit to aid in cold water rescues.


2019 Spring Round MCCF Grant Recipients

The Community Foundation also supplied Cultivate Culinary, the Beaman Home and American Legion Post 27 with $5,000 each.

The Legion plans to use their funds to bring the Traveling Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall to Marshall County and the Beaman Home will purchase a vehicle to transport home clients to appointments in Marshall, Fulton and Kosciusko Counties.

The organization Cultivate Culinary will use their funds to support an innovative food rescue program and build necessary capacity for new partnership to reach hungry families with nutritious food.

The Women’s Care Center was awarded $6,000 and officials shared that those funds will support the programs Healthy Babies and Building Kids with Character. These programs are intended for underprivileged and at-risk pregnant women and young children.

Items for the youth baseball fields and a new pitching machine will be purchased by the Argos Youth League who was awarded a total of $6,350.

The Marshall County 4-H Fair Association was provided with a $10,620 grant to buy tables for the fair and other events.

Some of the larger grants were awarded to Intrepid Phoenix, Wild Rose Moon, the Tippecanoe Improvement Association and Marshall County Habitat for Humanity.

Intrepid Phoenix plans to utilize the $14,500 they were given to support programs for individuals in recovery from drug and alcohol addictions and Wild Moon Rose was provided with $16,794 to further develop production facilities and purchase necessary equipment.

The Tippecanoe Improvement Association received a $15,000 grant to assist in the development of a new community park and the MC Habitat for Humanity was awarded $20,000 to help build affordable homes in the area for families in need of assistance.
