Fourth graders at Washington Discovery Academy recently created their own escape room scenario, as a way of learning about long division. A group of fourth graders and their teachers presented their project to the Plymouth School Board Tuesday.
Under their hypothetical scenario, a group of disgruntled basketball refs have locked the team in the locker room and stolen all of the equipment. In order to save the game, the players have to solve four math-related puzzles, which in turn, provide hints to find the necessary keys.
Each puzzle helps the player practice a different division-related skill, such as vocabulary, divisibility rules, computation, and word problems. In addition to math, creating the escape room also required students to use their writing and collaboration skills.
