Marshall County’s unemployment rate was up during the month of January. The county saw a 4.2-percent unemployment rate, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. That’s 1.1-percent higher than the month before and eight-tenths of a percent higher than it was in January of 2018.
The county’s unemployment rate is now higher than that of the state as a whole, but remains lower than the national level. Indiana’s non-seasonally adjusted rate for January was 4.1 percent, while the national rate was 4.4. Kosciusko County has the lowest unemployment rate of Marshall County’s neighbors at 3.5 percent, while Starke County is highest at 5.5.
Marshall County’s labor force is a bit larger than it was in January of last year, and the estimated number of people working decreased by about 20 over that same time frame.
