The dates for the 2019 Argos Summer Teacher Academy were established at last week’s school board meeting.
Superintendent Ned Speicher shared a bit about the program that’s offered annually.
He explained, “That’s something we do each summer and it’s professional development for our teachers and that’s going to be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the last two weeks in July.”
Superintendent Speicher added that teachers are provided with a small stipend for attending the training, “It’s a $50 stipend for a half-day and $100 for a full day session.”
He said there’s a variety of training courses for educators to choose from that are available through this program.
Speicher shared, “There will be sessions for elementary teachers and sessions for middle school and high school teachers and there will be sessions that will fit everyone K-12, like some of the technology sessions.”
He went on to explain, “They will get a full list before they get out of school here in the spring and they can sign up for the ones that they’re interested in or the ones that fit their work assignment.”
Superintendent Speicher said that this helps teachers out by giving them an opportunity to receive training without having to take time out during the school year. He added that even though it’s entirely voluntary, they had a 90 percent turn out last year.
