Bremen School Officials Discuss Student Safety Projects

Improving student safety is the motivation behind a number of upcoming and ongoing projects at the Bremen Public School Corporation.

According to Superintendent Dr. Jim White, officials recently went over some of the ways safety will be improved.

He explained, “We voted to make a bus drive to kind of separate traffic and really improve safety, we’ve adding fencing, we’ve ordered update door software that’s going to allow administrators to do a lock down on a mobile device, which I think will be good and we’ve got a proposed two story office entry to help secure it.”

Dr. White elaborated on the securing the entryways, noting that the current offices for the elementary and middle school are not in a centralized location at the front of the building.

He said, “We’re building a two story area out in front of the building, where the lower level is the elementary and the upper level is the middle school.”

Dr. White continued, “So parents and constitutes can be able to come in and access which ever administrator they need and not be inside the building, comingling with students.”

The project will be partially funded with money remaining from the schools bond as well as operational funds.

Superintendent White said board members gave him the go ahead to work with contractors from Barton-Coe-Vilamaa to get some drawings done and bids specifications created and sent out.

In the meantime, Dr. White said school officials are actively working to come up with ways they can better secure the entrances that are currently in place.
