The Plymouth School Board has approved the addition of two make-up days, following weather-related cancellations. Students will now have to be in class on Monday, February 18 and Monday, June 3.
While the school corporation typically holds eLearning days when regular classes are canceled, it doesn’t hold more than three eLearning days in a row. The school corporation recently had to cancel five consecutive days, according to Superintendent Andy Hartley.
He told the school board Tuesday that he’s been trying to get out of having to make up one of those days, but the Indiana Department of Education is unlikely to grant a waiver. That’s because the school corporation uses eLearning days and no formal state of emergency was declared for the local area.
Hartley also noted that while the Department of Education recommends that schools hold no more than two eLearning days in a row, other school districts have no limit. However, he felt the maximum of three consecutive eLearning days was the right number for Plymouth Schools’ students and staff.
