The new state-wide budget system transition was the main focus of the financial report during the February Argos School Board meeting.
Superintendent Ned Speicher said school board members were provided with some information to clear up any confusion about the budget changes that went into effect this year.
Speicher shared what the financial report entailed, “[We were] talking with them about the new accounting system in the state of Indiana that all school districts are doing where general fund, and capital projects fund, and transportation fund have all gone away and now we have the educational fund and operational fund.”
Superintendent Speicher explained why it was important to provide these details during the most recent school board meeting.
He continued, “[We were] getting the board acclimated to the new reporting procedures and our new accounts and just sharing that it hasn’t changed the way that money is being expended but it looks different.”
Speicher said in addition to giving board members a chance to get familiarized with the changes, the recap was a good opportunity for community members and staff to get a better idea about how the Argos Community School Corporation is handling the budgetary transition.
