Argos Police Chief Permitted to Spend Law Enforcement Funds to Outfit New Vehicle

Argos Police Chief Corey Bowman came before the Town Council last Wednesday seeking permission to outfit the department’s new vehicle once it comes in.

During his department report, Chief Bowman told council members that they’re still waiting on the new Dodge Charger to come in. In the meantime, he explained he’s been making plans to have it outfitted with equipment when it arrives.

He said initial estimates revealed that the vehicle’s computer will cost over $2,000, a printer will be around $500 and there will be additional charges for a scanner, lights and other pieces of equipment.

Department Heads are required to get an official ‘go ahead’ from the council to spend funds any time an item costs more than $2,500. Since Bowman is anticipating the entire cost of outfitting the vehicle to be some where around $8,000, he was asking permission to spend money from the Law Enforcement Fund once the time comes.

He noted that this would eliminate the need to come back and get permission for every single piece of equipment that they have to purchase and install.

Council members provided unanimous approval for Chief Bowman to outfit the department’s new vehicle with necessary equipment by spending money from the Law Enforcement Fund as needed.
