Triton School Board members addressed board salaries when they met Monday night.
According to Superintendent Jeremy Riffle, the salary for school board members has fluctuated in recent years.
“Six years ago when we going through some financial trouble, most of the board members returned their salary and at that time it was $1,850,” Riffle continued, “so after they did that for a few years, we actually bumped it down to $1,500 and a couple took it and a couple returned it.”
Superintendent Riffle said that when school board members met for their first meeting of 2019, they were informed that the amount of compensation has returned to $1,850.
He added that the board members have the ability to take the whole amount but they also have a few different options.
He explained, “In the board packet, they actually have an opt-out sheet, [which states] this is the salary how much do you want to be paid and they can either put a lower amount or they can donate it to something specific, like could be athletics or the science club or something like that, so they can designate where they want that salary to go.”
Riffle mentioned that the board members who choose to receive the monetary compensation are paid at the end of the year.
