After securing about $8.4 million for the development of the Plymouth Aquatic Center, project officials are now asking Marshall County residents to cover the remaining 10 percent of the cost. The Marshall County Economic Development Corporation announced the launch of the Aquatic Center Capital Campaign Wednesday.
A press release says the money raised will go toward many special amenities, including exterior signs, a scoreboard, security and water treatment systems, and an asphalt parking lot. The project has already gotten funding from the Regional Cities Initiative and New Market Tax Credits, as well as 17 partner organizations.
The Aquatic Center is currently under construction and is expected to be done by August. When complete, the 27,000-square-foot facility will feature a 10-lane pool, two diving boards, and seating for more than 435 people. It will be operated by private business owners and leased to the City of Plymouth, Plymouth Community Schools, and Ancilla College. The plan is to host competitive events, as well as community programs.
