Bremen School Board Discusses Potential Project Aimed at Improving Bus Drop-Off Procedures

Bremen School Board members met in a special work session on Saturday to discuss remaining bond funds and potential future projects.

According to Superintendent Dr. Jim White, when the school corporation was issued a bond last year, they received approximately $3.7 million.

Since the bond was issued, a few different projects have been tackled including a fence replacement, the installation of a new chilling tower at the elementary school and changing out the outdated lights and wooden posts at the high school football field for LED lighting and posts made out of a studier metal material.

Dr. White said that after taking into account the cost of those projects, the school corporation has about $1.9 million remaining from the bond. Projects are currently being prioritized to figure out where the rest of bond money should be spent first.

When school officials met during this weekend’s work session they discussed a project that would change how bus drop-offs are conducted on the corporation’s campus.

“Right now we have our buses dropping off kiddos using a shared parking lot that has pedestrian, student traffic, staff traffic, scooters, bikes, everything under the sun,” White continued, “and current standards really that you want to isolate bus drop-off traffic.”

Dr. White said the potential project would move drop-off operations from the shared parking lot on the east side of the school to a more secluded spot on the west side.

He explained, “We’d like to make a bus drop-off lane just to the north of our football field and clear up a lot of congestion.”

White added that the area they have in mind would need to be paved for parking purposes.

No official actions were taken when members met on Saturday. The potential project will be discussed further during the regularly scheduled school board meeting on Wednesday, February 20th. It may also be covered more when Bremen Public School officials meet for another work session scheduled for Saturday, February 26th.
