Teachers in the Plymouth Community School Corporation will be getting a raise. As part of the 2018-2019 master contract ratified by the school board Tuesday, eligible certified teachers will see a base salary increase of more than $600.
Superintendent Andy Hartley added that it also increases the incentives for teachers to become qualified to teach dual-credit courses, along with the incentives for those currently teaching those classes, thanks to grant funding.
Plymouth Education Association President Laura Kruyer felt that it was the best that could be done with the state funding available. She said they once again went into contract negotiations anticipating less money from the state. That’s been the case for the past several years. Kruyer also pointed out that the raise barely keeps up with inflation.
School Board President Todd Samuelson said the state funding formula makes it difficult for local school districts to make long-term plans.
