A vehicle collision that occurred in Marshall County on Monday resulted in one fatality.
Shortly after 5 p.m. on October 8th, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was notified about a personal injury crash in the area of U.S. 6 and Quince Road. Polk Township Fire Department, EMS, Marshall County Police and the Indiana State Police responded to the crash.
According to the police report, authorities found that a 2000 Jeep Cherokee being operated by Richard A. Knowlton Jr., of Walkerton, was traveling westbound on U.S. 6, west of Pine Road.
Meanwhile, a 2001 International 9200 semi with an oversized load trailer being operated by Jeffery D. Burton, of Logansport, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 6 in the same area as Knowlton’s vehicle.
While data from a Dodge dealership helped, Police report that Knowlton’s Jeep Cherokee collided with the front driver-side area of the oversized load trailer, causing the Jeep to roll several times. It came to a rest on its side.
As a result of the collision, Knowlton passed away and was pronounced deceased at the scene. While authorities conducted the initial investigation, the U.S. 6 roadway was closed and had limited access for several hours.
The incident remains under investigation with the Marshall County Sherriff’s Office, Indiana State Police and the Coroner’s Office.
