Bremen Public School officials discussed the corporation’s wellness plan during Monday night’s school board meeting. Superintendent Dr. Jim White said that reviewing this plan is an annual requirement.
In the plan, it is mentioned that the Bremen Public School Corporation is committed to providing an environment that promotes and protects children’s health, well-being and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity.
However, school officials stress that they cannot accomplish this mission on their own. It takes the support of staff, parents and members of the public to be involved in a community-wide effort to promote, support and model healthy behaviors and habits.
To identify ways to encourages nutritious eating and regular exercise that are specifically geared toward Bremen students and residents, input from community stockholders is gathered.
Bremen’s Wellness Committee consists of food service representatives, physical education, health and family and consumer science teachers, administrators, guidance counselors, parents and students from various grade levels.
Additionally, officials are able to utilize something called the Wellness School Assessment Tool to measure and evaluate their policy.
