A 13-year-old was taken to the hospital, after she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle in Plymouth Wednesday morning. Plymouth Police say it happened at around 7:40 at the intersection of Baker Street and Fairbanks Avenue.
A crossing guard had reportedly stopped traffic to let two pedestrians cross Fairbanks on the south side of the intersection, when the bicyclist began to cross on the other side of the street. At that point, police say a car that had stopped at the intersection started to proceed and struck the bicyclist.
The driver, Wendy Lauderback, of Plymouth, mistakenly thought the crossing guard had turned her stop sign to let traffic proceed, according to police. The bicyclist was taken by Plymouth EMS to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center with minor abrasions to her legs.
