Town conventions are now a thing of the past in the town of Bourbon.
When Town Council members met on Monday, they took action to pass an ordinance that replaces town conventions with a primary election. Town Council President Les McFarland said he felt the decision reflected the wishes of community members.
“It was a pretty important thing.” McFarland said, “I think the Republican convention is just kind of outdated and the majority of the public wanted to change to a primary.”
McFarland explained that town officials will now need to coordinate with the Marshall County Election Board about the change. He added that Bourbon residents can expect to participate in a primary election next year.
