Plymouth City Council members held a pre-adoption public hearing over their 2019 budget when they met last Monday.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver shared that the published budget is based on 85 percent of the current year’s assessed valuation (AV). She explained that the current AV is $391 million and 85 percent of that is $333 million.
Xaver said based on that reduced AV, the anticipated tax rate for 2019 would be $2.12 per $100 of net assessed valuation and added that excludes the cumulative capital development fund’s rate. She also noted last year’s rate was advertised at $1.95 and it ended up being a $1.65.
Additionally, the city has a total budget estimate of $16,306,141, according to the notice that appears on the Indiana Gateway for Governmental Units.
No public comments were provided by Councilman Jeff Houin commended the clerk-treasurer for answering the questions he submitted to her in such a detailed and timely manner.
He explained that he was grateful that Xaver, Mayor Mark Senter and the department heads work very diligently to make sure that by the time the budget makes it to the council, it typically doesn’t require any extra cuts or amendments.
The 2019 budget for the City of Plymouth will be up for adoption at the council’s next meeting on Monday, September 24th.
