Every year, the Indiana Department of Education and state legislature requires schools to adopt a policy about how to distribute teacher appreciation funds supplied by the state.
Bremen Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim White said the school board adopted their policy Monday evening, with legislative suggestions in mind.
He explained, “They give us guidance about how it must be distributed, that the highly effective teachers and the effective teachers, there needs to be a 25 percent difference between the two groups on their evaluations.”
Dr. White went on to say, “So that policy basically took the minimum separation of saying ‘Okay, the highly effective teachers will be paid 25 percent more of the bonus that the effective teachers.”
Superintendent White added that the policy also stipulates that teachers who need improvement or are described as ineffective would not receive a bonus.
