This Saturday you can contribute to a great cause while having some fun on Culver’s scenic Lake Maxinkuckee during the second annual “Paddle to the Max” event.
Hosted by Shaka SUP Racing, this event features stand-up paddleboard and kayak races. There will be racing divisions for youth, beginners and advanced paddlers. Though there is a competitive element, participants are also free to come out just for fun.
Five dollars from every registration fee collected will be donated to the Culver Boys and Girls Club. Shaka SUP owner Elizabeth Maxwell noted that last year more than $500 was donated to the organization from the inaugural event.
Maxwell shared that people who register before midnight tonight only have to pay $35 while those who wait until Saturday will pay a $45 registration fee.
This year’s event t-shirts are partially made from recycled plastic bottles, in an effort to help keep beaches and waterways clean. People who registered before August 10th are guaranteed a shirt, but the remaining ones will be provided on a first come first served basis.
The event will take place at the Culver Cove Condominiums’ North Beach located at 319 East Jefferson Street, just down the road from the public beach area. Races will begin at 8 a.m. EST. Community members are invited to come watch the action.
