Almost a hundred local leaders from around Marshall County gathered in Plymouth Thursday for a Stellar Communities workshop. A cooperative effort involving the county and its six municipalities is a finalist for this year’s designation.
Thursday’s workshop gave local government and business leaders, among others, the chance to meet with representatives from Ball State’s Indiana Communities Institute and the state officials behind the Stellar Communities program. According to a press release, the local officials spent over three hours learning how to develop projects and funding for their Stellar application.
That information will have to be included in a strategic investment plan. Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer says the goal is to improve the region’s quality of life and attract new residents and workers.
Each of the six finalists for this year’s Stellar Designation is expected to get a site visit from state officials this fall. The winning regions will be announced in December.
