The most recent Indiana Department of Work Force Development unemployment report indicates that Marshall County’s labor force saw in increase in May, but unfortunately so did the county’s unemployment rate.
The labor force in Marshall County gained 695 workers from April to May and 614 more people were recorded as employed.
However, there were also 81 more individuals who identified as unemployed. This resulted in an increase to the unemployment rate. It went from the 2.7 percent that had been maintained for months to an even 3 percent in May.
Meanwhile, the state rate stayed the same from April to May at 3.2 percent and America’s rate shrank slightly, falling one-tenth of a percentage point. Compared to this time last year, the state is in the same boat while the country’s rate has improved, going from 4.3 in May of 2017 to 3.8 this year.
