Police Respond to Property Damage Accident with Flaming Car, Reportedly Results in Drunk Driving Arrest

Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department were called to the area of U.S. 6 and Pine Road for a property damage accident around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 6th.

According to a police report, as officers arrived on the scene, they observed a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames off the roadway on the north side of the road. They checked the vehicle and found no occupants.

Police say they discovered that the driver, 25-year-old Travis James Weist, of Plymouth, had gotten out of the vehicle as the only occupant and was standing by at a residence off the road. He was checked for injuries by Walkerton EMS. According to the report, no injuries were sustained and he signed medical refusal.

Weist was then checked through standardized field sobriety testing and was reportedly found to be twice the legal limit. He was then transported to the hospital for a certified test where results of the certified test allegedly confirmed what the field sobriety testing had found.

The report indicates Travis was then booked into the Marshall County Jail for operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .15% or higher.
