Plymouth Administrator Named IASP District 2 Assistant Principal of the Year

A Plymouth High School administrator was recently chosen as the Indiana Association of School Principals’ District 2 Assistant Principal of the Year.

Assistant Principal Ken Olson received the distinction after he was nominated by his district peers for the award. In order to be nominated, a candidate must not only be involved in school leadership, but they should also be active in the community.

Olson has served as a proud member of the Leadership Marshall County Board since 2014 and has been working for Plymouth schools for the past eight years, according to Plymouth Community School Corporation Marketing Director Judi Lykoswki.

He started out as Dean of Students in July of 2010 and was later named the director for Weidner School of Inquiry at Plymouth High School in December that same year. He held the director’s position until May of 2013. He currently remains in the position of Dean of Students and serves as one of the four assistant principals at PHS.

Prior to working at Plymouth schools, he taught for nine years at Bremen High School in the business and social studies departments. Before that, Olson was a teacher for Warsaw Community Schools for one year.

After learning that he received the IASP award, Olson said he was very humbled by the honor and thankful to work with such a great administration team. He mentioned that while he is grateful to Principal Jim Condon for the nomination, any one of the other individuals who are designated as assistants at Plymouth High School could have easily received the distinction for their incredible work.

Plymouth administrators have a history of receiving recognition from the Indiana Association of School Principals. PHS Assistant Principal Kyle Coffman was named the IASP District 2 Assistant Principal of the Year last April and Plymouth High School Principal Jim Condon was named the District 2 Principal of the Year, as well as Indiana High School Principal of the year in 2014.

The state of Indiana is divided up into 12 IASP districts. District 2 is made up of several counties including Marshall, Starke, Pulaski, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, Kosciusko and Fulton. The district winners will be submitted to the state selection committee for consideration for the Indiana Assistant Principal of the Year. That winner will be announced during the IASP Fall Professional Conference and banquet that will be held this fall in Indianapolis.
