Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to Host Prescription Drug Take-Back Site This Saturday

According to a 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans have abused prescription drugs, with the majority of those medications obtained from the home medicine cabinet of friends or family members.

To help prevent drug addiction and potential overdose deaths, Sheriff Matt Hassel announced that the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 15th Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28th.

Residents are encouraged to drop off any expired, unused or unneeded prescription drugs to officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Drug-Free Committee members in the parking lot of Walgreen’s in Plymouth from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. ET.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back initiative aims to provide a safe, convenient and anonymous means of disposing of prescription drugs while also educating the general public about the potential abuse and misuse of medications.

A news release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office indicates that there are more Americans who abuse psychotherapeutics than the number of cocaine, heroin and hallucinogen abusers combined.

Citizens are being asked to take a few moments this week to clean out their medicine cabinets to assist in cutting down on a potential source of supply to drug abusers who could possibly make these medications a risk to public health and safety. Officers will be stationed in the parking lot of the Walgreens located at 2014 N Michigan Street,
