When the Bourbon Town Council met on Tuesday, members committed $3,000 to the Community Destination Imagination group for a service project they have planned at the Early Bourbon Cemetery.
At a previous meeting, the students in the group told council members they want to do something to help revitalize the town’s cemetery.
Rather than attempting to repair all the stones that have been damaged through the years, the group plans to erect a monument to commemorate all those who are buried there. There are about 50 individuals buried in the cemetery whose names will appear on the monument.
According to Clerk-Treasurer Kimberly Berger, when council members met this week the students informed them that they will be working with the Warsaw-based company Patten Monument of Indiana and the structure will cost about $6,500 to construct.
With the town planning to provide three grand that leaves another $3,500 that still needs to be raised. The group is asking for community members to supply monetary donations to help with the project. Any amount can be donated but there is also an option to sponsor a name for $70 each.
To provide a donation visit the Bourbon Clerk-Treasurer’s Office at 104 East Park Avenue. For more information, you can reach Clerk-Treasurer Kimberly Berger at 574-342-4755.
