Plymouth Mayor Gives State of the City, Presents Key to the City

Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter presented the 2018 State of the City Address during Monday night’s city council meeting, but not before recognizing a dedicated official for his years of service with the city.

“I Mark Senter, by the virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor, and on behalf of the entire city council and all of our citizens, do hereby present the key to the city to Shawn Grobe for many years of a job well done and wish Shawn and his family the best in all of their future endeavors.”

Grobe officially submitted his resignation back in February. During his speech, Mayor Senter highlighted that Grobe served the city in many capacities, including as a member of the Redevelopment Commission for three years and as a city councilman for more than 6 years.

Following the proclamation and key presentation, Mayor Senter provided his State of the City Address. One thing he focused on was the way the community came together during the flood recovery period. He said as surreal as the experience has been, he said he was grateful to see Marshall County leaders working with city officials in a way he’s never seen before.

He specifically thanked Commissioners Mike Delp and Kurt Garner as well as the county council members for their leadership and assistance.

He provided many thanks to numerous city officials including Councilman Gary Cooke for having the foresight when he served as Mayor in 2007, to apply for a FEMA grant which assisted with purchasing several homes to mitigate the flooding problems throughout the city.

Mayor Senter highlighted the hard work done by Laura Mann, Josh Walker, Linda Yoder and Angie Rupchock-Shaffer in providing a game plan for not only flood week, but also presenting ideas for long-term recovery efforts.

He added that the Mayor’s Youth Council also took part in flood recovery, passing up the chance to attend a conference in Bloomington in order stick back and help with clean-up.

In addition to all the officials and leaders who he thanked, Mayor Senter also acknowledged the numerous volunteers who provided their time and effort to assist their community during this time of need.
