Bremen School Board members voted to proceed with securing bonds for facility upgrades at their most recent meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Jim White explained that they are looking to make a few different improvements and school board members took the next big step in the process last Monday by agreeing to obtain the necessary bonds to tackle the proposed projects.
Dr. White added that following the tragic school shooting that took place in Florida recently, many parents were calling in to ask about the safety of Bremen Schools.
He said he understood why the community would be shaken by such a tragedy and commented that he was glad he could tell concerned citizens that a few of the proposed upgrades were for the school’s security features.
“Two parts of this project were directly related, prior to any of that happening, to securing our entryways and forcing traffic through an office way and so that will address community needs that they’re concerned about.” Dr. White said, “Even though we were already planning on it, it’s great to be able to react and address those concerns.”
Bremen Public Schools will be pursuing a $4 million bond for upgrades including the security features that Dr. White mentioned as well as roof repairs, locker room renovations at the high school and some temperature control work and cooling tower replacement at the elementary school.
