Bremen School Board Adopts Uncharted Learning Entrepreneurship Program

The Bremen School Board approved the adoption of the Uncharted Learning Entrepreneurship Program when they met on Monday. Superintendent Jim White said program development is still ongoing. However, they plan to offer it at various different grade levels.

He explained, “That is an entrepreneurial program for what probably is going to be fourth or fifth graders, one of those two and then either seventh or eighth graders and then in our high school.”

Dr. White said the goal of the program is to plant the seed of entrepreneurship into the minds of Bremen students.

At the high school level, they’ve discussed holding a two-trimester course that would involve hands-on activities and engagement.

“Basically they start from scratch. They don’t necessarily make a business plan but they work off of the lean business model that comes out of Stanford.” Dr. White continued, “In groups, they will start their own business and propose their own products that they would like to make. And if possible they will work toward the prototypes and manufacturing of those products.”

The superintendent added that the Uncharted Learning Entrepreneurship Program is mirrored after some existing Illinois curriculum that a board member found while researching educational entrepreneurship opportunities. Dr. White said Bremen will be one of the first Indiana schools to implement such a class.
