A scholarship program designed to support primary care doctors in rural Indiana has named its first recipient. Jesse Gettinger of Bremen has been awarded the Bowen Family Medical Scholarship. It’s available to medical students from Marshall County interested in a career in rural family medicine.
Gettinger currently attends the Indiana University School of Medicine. He’s expected to graduate in 2021. After that, he hopes to practice family medicine in the northern Indiana area, according to a press release from the Marshall County Community Foundation.
The scholarship is named for Dr. Otis Bowen, who practiced medicine in Bremen for decades before becoming Indiana governor and then secretary of health and human services.
