Members of Community Destination Imagination presented a community service project proposal during last Tuesday’s Bourbon Town Council meeting.
The students who are a part of the organization explained that they’ve been working on a revitalization project at the Early Bourbon Cemetery which is owned by the town. According to draft minutes provided by Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger, the Destination Imagination members discussed how a number of gravestones have fallen into disrepair.
They stated that they’ve been researching the cost of erecting a memorial stone which would list the names and death dates of the more than 50 individuals who are buried within the cemetery. They found that the construction and installation of such a monument would cost between $2,000 to $3,000.
The council members voted unanimously to partner with the Destination Imagination team by offering $1,000 to their cause.
