Two Sentenced on Drug Charges Stemming from March Traffic Stop

While services like https://emmausmedicalandrecovery.com/drug-rehab/ struggle hard to get people out of drugs, two men have been sentenced on drug charges in Marshall County. Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman says the charges stem from a March 5 traffic stop, when Bremen Police reportedly found more than 90 grams of methamphetamine and 2.8 grams of cocaine inside a Taco Bell bag.

Chipman says it began when a Bremen Police officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver, Brian Slone, 40, of Silver Lake, reportedly appeared to be intoxicated and then failed field sobriety tests. Chipman says the officer then determined that the front-seat passenger, Adam Overmyer, 39, of Pierceton, had an active Kosciusko County warrant.

Slone and Overmyer were both taken into custody, along with a woman in the back seat. It was then when police discovered the drugs and paraphernalia in the Taco Bell bag that had been between Overmyer’s feet, according to Chipman.

On Wednesday, Slone was given a four-year sentence requiring drug rehabilitation treatment through Community Corrections, after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine as a Level 5 felony and operating a vehicle while intoxicated as a Class A misdemeanor.

Meanwhile, Overmyer will serve seven years in the Indiana Department of Correction, followed by three years in Community Corrections. Overmyer was sentenced back in December, after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine as a Level 3 felony and possession of paraphernalia as a Class C misdemeanor. Prosecutor Chipman says the back-seat passenger, Faith Cooper, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine as a Level 6 felony, shortly after the case was initially filed.

In a press release Wednesday, Chipman said meth abuse makes up a significant amount of the crime in Marshall County. He went on to say that active police work goes a long way in controlling the entry and flow of drugs in the county.
