A fundraiser for the Marshall County Humane Society will be held at Café Max in Culver soon. The Canines, Cocktails and Pet Portraits event is running from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. ET on Monday, January 15.
For $25, people can have a headshot of their dog taken by pet photographer Tony Straw. Light refreshments and cocktails will be served as well. All proceeds will assist the humane society with operation costs and help them continuing providing for the community’s homeless animals.MCHS Executive Director Nancy Cox invited everyone to come out for a chance to contribute to a good cause, meet other dog owners in the area and show off your best friends.
“What else are we going to do this winter? Might as well cozy up there down at Café Max, have a few cocktails and have our pets in there. And we want you to be responsible.” Cox said, “We want you to be able to bring your pet in on a leash and keep it on a leash. Clean up after your dog if it were to make a mess, not all of them are used to being socialized around other animals but she’s got a pretty big place.”
The director said that aside from monetary donations, they will also accept pet supplies of any kind, including dog and cat food, collars, leashes, kitty litter, towels and blankets. She also said they will accept paper towel and cleaning supplies, as well as office supplies like copy paper, stamps and envelopes.
Another suggestion was toys and old stuffed animals. She said many people are probably cleaning out their kids’ closets around this time of year and suggested bringing in anything that is still in good enough shape to donate.
“We like to give them stuffed animals, they like to have something to cuddle up with.” Cox explained, “That’s basically all of our pets, even cats, their favorite toy donations are used stuffed animals and people don’t think about it but usually when you come in here most of our dogs and cats have one or two stuffed in their cages with them.”
The event is open to all individuals, including non-pet owners and dog lovers who choose to leave their furry friends at home. Café Max is located 113 S Main Street in Culver. Individuals who choose to enjoy some cocktails should plan to have a designated driver attend the event as well.
If you’re unable to make it to Monday’s event, donations may also be brought to the Marshall County Humane Society during their regular business hours. They’re open from 10 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. until 4 Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The shelter is closed on Sundays. They’re located at 11165 13th Rd, on the corner of US 31 and 13th Road in Plymouth. If you have any questions call them at 574-936-8300.
