Bremen Police Department to Get New K9

The Bremen Police Department will be getting a new K9. The Bremen Town Council members approved funding for the purchase of a new dog from Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana.

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said the current K9 is over 10 years old and he’s ready for retirement. K9 Handler Trent Stouder will keep the current dog as a family pet and work with the new K9 while on the job. The new K9 will be with Stouder all the time as well.

There are funds available for the purchase of a new dog at a cost of $15,000 thanks in part to the annual benefit basketball game. Weldy said about one or two thousand dollars a year from the benefit will be set aside for the K9 program.
