Two fatalities and critical injuries have been reported after a vehicle allegedly fled from police and ran a red light Saturday night.
According to an ISP press release, around 9:20 p.m. on January 13th, an Indiana State Trooper was responding to a theft that apparently occurred at the Meijer located at 1200 Lake City Highway in Warsaw. The report indicates that the trooper saw a car that matched the description of the suspect vehicle, which was described as a white 2003 Pontiac Grand Am.
The suspect vehicle reportedly fled eastbound on US 30 and drove through a red light at the intersection of US 30 and Parker Street, crashing into three other vehicles.
The driver was later identified as 19-year-old Jacob Slone of Warsaw and a 16-year-old female passenger was also in the car. Both the driver and passenger of the Grand Am were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner. Both families have been notified.
The driver and passenger of a silver 2017 GMC, 34-year-old Miguel Linares Jr. and 35-year-old Nora Linares, both of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan were injured in the crash. The police report indicates that Nora Linares’ injuries were serious but not life-threatening, while Miguel Linares Jr. suffered critical and potentially life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Both are currently being treated at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
No other serious injuries were reported and the other involved vehicles and occupants were not identified in the report. US 30 was shut down to eastbound traffic for crash reconstruction but was reopened around 4 a.m. on Sunday. Police say the crash reconstruction investigation remains on going and will take several weeks to complete. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to call First Sergeant Kevin Smith at the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post at 260-432-8661.
