Policies adoption was the main focus of the Culver Community School Board meeting that took place Monday night.
Superintendent Karen Shuman said that some of the policies and procedures were already in place but the board needed to have a first reading in order for them to be entered into the system. She said one policy that was noticeably changed had to do with background checks.
Their past policy mandated that background checks only needed to be conducted on new hires. Shuman explained that the new policy has some different stipulations, “To make sure we’re doing background checks on all of our employees within the five year period, the policy stated that we’d be doing at least 20% of our school employees every year for the next five years and then beginning that cycle over again.”
The school board also established a system in order to review their existing policies to see which ones need updated, removed or amended. Shuman said a work session will be held prior to the next school board meeting to further develop the system.
