Today, various businesses around town will have a chance to meet the next generation of workers as more than 260 Plymouth High School students tour facilities as a part of Manufacturing Day.
In a media advisory, the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation said this national event gives manufacturers the opportunity to open their doors to showcase their businesses and foster an interest in manufacturing careers.
The number of local businesses involved increased from 2016 and the ones participating are considered to better reflect the variety of work opportunities in Plymouth. Freshman from PHS will be touring Hoosier Tire, WestRock, Pregis, CTE Solutions, and Homestead Dairy. Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Kessler Crane and the recently opened company Pretzels Inc. will also be explored by curious career seekers.
MCEDC stated that Plymouth High school has a history of ensuring their students are career-ready by taking part in this event over the last few years. This year the event was targeted at younger students in order to get them thinking about career paths early.
Bremen High School students recognized Manufacturing Day on October 11th and more Marshall County schools are being encouraged to participate in the future. The Marshall County EDC said that participating businesses are eager to introduce students to the work they do and share the variety of high-skilled jobs they offer.
