Marshall County’s unemployment rate continues to drop, but the actual number of people working is also declining. The county posted an unemployment rate of 2.9 percent for the month of October, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
That’s a tenth of a percent lower than the month before, and a half a percent down than the same period last year. However, nearly 800 people are believed to have left the county’s labor force since October of 2016, and there are actually fewer people working in Marshall County than there were last year.
Elkhart County had the area’s lowest October unemployment rate at 2.4 percent, which is also a tie for the lowest in the state. Indiana as a whole saw an unemployment rate of 3.4 percent last month.
