When the Bremen School Board met Monday, members agreed to change the language in the school corporation’s substitute teacher applications to reflect current standards.
Bremen Superintendent Dr. Jim White explained that some of their documentation reflected an old state policy that required individuals to have at least 60 hours of college credit in order to become a substitute teacher. However, policies have changed and now a high school graduate can apply and receive a substitute teaching license through the state.
Dr. White asked the board members if there were any reasons the wording should be left as is. They all agreed it would be more advantageous to have the applications reflect the current state policies.
Superintendent White mentioned that the language indicating a need for college credit was limiting the amount of people applying to the school. He said he hopes that by amending that detail, more people will see Bremen as an option when applying for substitute teaching positions.
